Situated in Farr, 8 miles outside of Inverness and south of Loch Ness, The Artists Cottage is located in a country setting, offering guests a unique opportunity of staying in a modern holiday home which was designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh. It is thought Mackintosh designed the Artist's Cottage, and nearby Studio, for himself and his wife Margaret Macdonald, however, the project was eventually built in 1992, 66 years after his demise. The house is a 20 minute drive out of Inverness and is set in its own grounds of 1.5 acres. The Cottage is an ideal choice for guests looking for something different in a central but tranquil and picturesque location.
Throughout, the property has unique Charles Rennie Mackintosh design features, which are notable in all rooms. The accommodation is located over two levels, with tranquil views of the surrounding countryside. On the ground level an impressive entrance vestibule has a spacious cloakroom area and a WC and washhand basin. The hallway opens to an impressive stairway and dining area, both featuring CRM design windows. The spacious livingroom has ample seating provided by 2 sofas, and additional 2 chairs, seated by the open fire. There are patio doors leading to a walled garden area. There is a well equipped kitchen, which also features a CRM design window.
Upstairs there is a double bedroom with an en-suite shower room, and peaceful countryside views.
The second double bedroom is very generously sized, with a sleigh bed, sofa and TV and desk area. Adjoining to this bedroom is the twin bedroom, with en-suite shower room, making this well suited for families. All three bedrooms feature wood beamed ceilings.
This part of South Loch Ness provides quiet country roads and open countryside, and the South Loch Ness Trail, making it ideal for an outdoor holiday, no matter what your outdoor pursuit. The quiet location and the surrounding moorland make it a wildlife haven, with red grouse, mountain hare and red deer, and an abundance of native birds.
The City of Inverness offers a wide arrange of facilities including a wide selection of shops and restaurants, an art gallery and museum, the Eden Court Theatre, and Culloden Battlefield and Fort George are located just a short distance from the City. Perhaps the best way to see everything that is on offer is to take a trip on the City Sightseeing Bus Tour. The Caledonian Canal also passes through Inverness and from here boat trips are available to Loch Ness with Jacobite Cruises.
Further afield the location of The Artist's Cottage offers a perfect base for exploring, with the A9 north to the Northern Highland and the West Coast, and South to Aviemore and the Cairngorm National Park just a short distance away.
